Your questions answered

Frequently asked questions

  • Air source heat pumps can suit many types of home, including older properties. We assess your home’s heat loss, existing heating system, hot water needs and available space before recommending a solution.

  • The price depends on the system size, installation work and any changes to radiators, pipework or hot water storage. Solaris can provide a tailored quotation so you understand what is included and which costs apply to your home.

  • Not necessarily. Existing radiators may be suitable, but some rooms may need larger emitters to provide enough warmth at lower water temperatures. Room-by-room heat-loss calculations help identify which radiators can stay and where upgrades would be useful.

  • Yes. They extract heat from outdoor air even in cold weather. Output and efficiency vary with the conditions, so the system must be sized and designed for your home’s heating demand during colder periods.

  • The unit needs a suitable outdoor position with clear airflow and access for servicing. Its location should also take account of sound, neighbouring properties, drainage and pipe routes. We assess these factors when planning your installation.

  • The work may include fitting the outdoor unit, a hot water cylinder, controls and any necessary radiator or pipework upgrades. Disruption and timescales depend on the property. We explain the planned work and any interruption to heating or hot water before installation.

  • It can, but savings are not guaranteed. Running costs depend on the heating you replace, your electricity tariff, heat demand and system efficiency. A well-designed system with suitable controls and heat emitters gives you a stronger basis for efficient operation.

  • Eligible property owners in England and Wales may qualify for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. Support depends on the property, existing heating and proposed installation. Solaris can help you understand the current requirements and how the installer-led application process works.

Grants and Support

Boiler Upgrade Scheme Support

Eligible homeowners in England and Wales may be able to receive £7,500 towards a qualifying air source or ground source heat pump installation through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. The scheme is designed to reduce the upfront cost of replacing fossil fuel or electric heating with a low-carbon heating system.

Solaris Energy can help you understand whether your property may qualify and guide you through the process. The scheme is installer-led, which means an MCS-certified installer applies for and redeems the voucher on behalf of the property owner.
